| Description: |
The word 'lumber' isn't a part of the
Aussie woodworker's vocabulary. However, despite the title,
this is actually a pretty good project book. As you may suspect,
it's all about producing items of use from recycled timber.
It talks about sourcing wood and identifying the most usable
pieces, as well as working with defects. It provides thirteen
projects, including: Mixed-Wood Boxes, Step Stool, Desk Caddy,
Picture Frame, Bench, Country-Style Sofa Table, Rustic Toolbox,
Coasters, Collapsible Light-Duty Sawhorse, Tabletop Artist's
Easel and Paper Clip Box. Each project is accompanied by a
cutting list with both metric and imperial measurements. There
are also step-by-step colour photos to support the crystal
clear instructions.
Using recycled timber for woodworking projects makes sense both financially and environmentally and the finished items often have a charm not always found in those made from new timber. The simple and rustic style of the furniture and the unusual materials they are made from could inspire you to create unique pieces of your own, or you can follow the clear instructions for making the examples shown. Best suited for beginners but also ideal
for budget- and/or environment-conscious woodies!
