If rustic is your style you’ll enjoy this book that is subtitled Chairs and chairmakers of Ireland. There are almost as many pictures of trees as chairs in this book that takes its inspiration from nature. Found branches and sticks are hand shaped and jointed into character-filled seating. Sourcing and harvesting green timber takes up a chapter, as does the tools, techniques and devices (including plans for a shave horse) that are then used. Tops and frames for stools and small tables are discussed, then designing and making a side, arm, child’s and rocking chairs (metric and imperial measurements are given). A gallery section presents some more refined green wood chair designs along with information about their makers.
