Description: As reviewed by AWR:

Richard Allen and Kimbal Baker travelled 60,000 kilometres to record fifty of Australia's tree icons. This book follows locally in the footsteps of Thomas Pakenham's well known books about remarkable trees in the UK and the world.

The term 'coffee table book' can tend to insinuate a large format and somewhat superficial visual treatment of a given subject. This book certainly deserves a central position for pleasurable viewing, but the subject matter is anything but shallow. The authors' perspective is not a scientific one. It's an official and respectful recording of special trees that deserve to be acknowledged for differing reasons, whether that be their height, girth, rarity, historical or societal link to a certain community.

There are 50 trees in the book. The trees featured are both native and non-native species. Five hundred photos make for a visual feast, while the text that accompanies each of the 50 is a lively account of the historic and geographic facts that make it significant.
