That's where this small benchtop companion style book enters, and it certainly lives up to its name. The book brims with detailed instructions for every known way of applying polish, and of course fully describes the various materials used. Subjects covered include stripping, surface preparation, staining, French polishing, oil finishing and advanved polishing. The beauty of this book (and what makes it rare) is that it is written for the Australian woodworker, taking into account the timbers and finishing materials available locally. Even if you have no intention of polishing anthing you'll find it an entertaining read, as Neil's humour is waiting at every turn of the page: 'Woodworker out buying timber says to yardman that he needs 20 lengths of 90 x 45 mm pine. Yardman asks how long he needs them. Hobbyist responds that he's not quite sure but quite a while, because he's building a garage.'
