The influence of George Ingham’s teaching and creative output in Australia should not be underestimated. In 1982 he came from the UK to set up and direct the Wood Workshop at the Canberra School of Art, ANU. He taught there for 20 years until his death in 2003. This book is a lavishly produced limited edition (1,000 copies) hardback (340 x 220mm) which documents his designing, making and teaching over this period. A student of Japanese sword fighting and archery, Ingham brought aspects of zen philosophy into a school atmosphere that was likened to a dojo. The book catalogues his beautiful work with large images simply and spaciously presented. Some of Ingham’s drawings show constructional details while others show his decorative genius. Essays by Dr Rodney Hayward and Dr Mark Woolston reveal as much about the man as his life’s work.
